Fort Jadhavgadh (FJ) nestled in the Western Ghats amidst nature’s laps is a very beautiful heritage resort. It is located near Saswad and is about an hour and half drive away from Pune. The road is not the best but the Dive ghat makes up for it with the beautiful view.
FJ is spread over 25 acres of revamped landscape. With about 58 rooms including suites, tents and cottages, FJ caters to different audience in terms of stay options. One can opt for the Maharaja / Maharani suites for a truly royal experience or have a royal wedding at the 300 year old Ganesh temple.
This fort was taken care of by Subedar Pilaji Jadhavrao for the grandson of Chhatrapati Shivaji i.e. Chhatrapati Shahuji. An audio tour of the place that takes about an hour gives you a great insight into various pieces of history of the fort. The ‘Aai Museum’ puts on display artefacts, antiques, jewelry and weapons used by the emperors back then.
For me the highlight of FJ Resort is the beautiful and serene temperature controlled pool. The way it has been set up is quite exquisite and makes you want to just jump in or have a glass of champagne by the pool.
We stayed in one of the ‘Kholi’ and the rooms are really cozy, comfortable and modern yet retaining that royal heritage vibe. We were provided cookies and fruit baskets alongside the usual tea/coffee makers.
There are plenty of dining options: Chajja – An All Day Dining restaurant, Payatha – The Ethnic Foothill Restaurant, Aangan – The Courtyard Café and Kund – The Poolside Bar. Each of them have their own unique ambiance and variety of dishes to offer.
In terms of entertainment, FJ organises a martial arts show or locally known as Daan Patta in the evenings. Ghazal nights and Lavani will enthrall you at dinner. Activities like rifle shooting, paint ball, archery, other sports and bullock cart riding are offered at FJ.
There are plenty of packages FJ has to offer and once can even opt for the full day package in case he/she does not want to spend the night there. One thing I would recommend is the audio tour that takes you around the entire property in over an hour and describes the historical significance of each area/artifact. A big shout out to Neha Joshi for inviting us and Team FJ for hosting us.
