With the IPL 2017 just around the corner, the Supergiant Van for the RPS fans was unveiled. The #SupergiantsforSoldiers is an RPS initiative in association with Ketto.
Steve Smith (Captain – RPS), Stephen Fleming (Head Coach – RPS), Hrishikesh Kanitkar (Assistant Coach – RPS) and Raghu Iyer (CEO – RPS) flagged off the Supergiant Van.
A press conference followed and here’s a few takes from the captain and coach himself.
Stephen Fleming on being asked about the change in captaincy, “There definitely has been a controversy based upon the decision but with the likes of Ajinkya Rahane who led the Indian Test Team recently, Faf Du Plessis leading the Proteas and MS Dhoni, I think Steve Smith will be strong on the leadership front.”
Steve Smith upon being asked by Arvind Soju if he would be having a go with the ball or sticking to power hitting with the bat said, “When you’re the captain, you’re free to do what you want so let’s find out!”
Stephen Fleming also said, “With Ashwin who is one of the best bowlers in the world being injured, I think Imran Tahir will have a very important role to play.”
Steve Smith looked forward to the Pune pitch, “Last year, the ground seemed to be good but when we played our test at Pune, it wasn’t the best. So we’ll have to wait and find out.”
Kunal Kapoor, co-founder of Ketto explained about his tie-up with the Rising Pune Supergiant, “Ketto is a crowd funding platform for a cause wherein even an individual can make contributions. The tie up with the Rising Pune Supergiant seemed very interesting and we were like why not.”
I wish Team Rising Pune Supergiant the best of luck and let’s hope they bring the trophy to our yard.
