Baan Tao is hosting ‘Konnichiwa Japan’, a Japanese food festival with Japanese Master Chef Shohei. The festival is on till the 26th March, 2017.
Japanese cuisine is traditionally associated with rice, miso soup and various other dishes. Chef Shohei offers a wide array of sushi, sashimi, rolls, kushiyaki and a few more of his signature dishes.
I was glad to have a preview of this festival and here’s a brief description of what I tasted.
We were served the Nigiri Sushi, California Maki, Sashimi and the smoked Salmon Roll. The Nigiri Sushi had salmon, tuna and yellow tail while the California Maki had crab stick, avocado, cucumber and tobiko. The Salmon roll had some smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber while the Sashimi had an array of meats and seafood.
We also had a couple of Japanese influenced mocktails.
The Teriyaki Chicken was served with chicken morsels, leeks, zucchini and grilled eggplant. The chicken was well cooked, was tossed in just the right amount of sauce and the leeks, zucchini and eggplant paired well with the chicken.
The Cotton Tofu in Mushroom sauce had tofu cubes, baby corn, mushrooms and broccoli in a mushroom sauce. The sauce was really subtle and every element of the dish was well respected that allowed individual flavors to shine out really well.
The Matcha Tea Cheesecake was another example of Chef Shohei’s brilliance. This dessert had a Matcha Tea Cheesecake, praline, fresh strawberry and some homemade ice cream. There was a subtle taste of the green tea in the cheesecake and the ice cream was just brilliant. The praline added that extra crunch to make this dessert a perfect one.
