Farzi Cafe had been trending on social media with all the teasers and countdown. With outlets in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and Dubai, Pune was finally Farzified.
Located on level 1 & 2 of the Fortaleza Complex, it has an indoor and a rooftop seating. The ambiance is really good with the movable chairs and tables however the seating can be a little uncomfortable at times.
Thanks to Utsav Tetarbe from Trell, The B Team got a chance to be Farzified and we couldn’t have been more excited.
The amuse bouche / welcome shots were the Mishti Doi Spheres along with a strawberry syrup which were meant to be had in one go. They were served on a bed of dry ice and it was a beautiful theatrical element.
We started off with the Mini Raj Kachori. It was a traditional kachori with sweet yogurt, tamarind & green chilly chutney along with some foam. It was a good amalgamation of all the chutneys with yogurt.
The Dal Chawal Aranchini stands amongst the signatures for Farzi Café. Arborio rice replaced by dal chawal in the arancini served on a bed of tomato sauce, along with a rolled papad and chutney foam. All the elements combined together tasted wonderful.
The Tandoori Wild Mushrooms had two types of mushrooms in a cheesy alfredo sauce. The sauce was good but I found it to be on the lower end.
The Tempura Fried Prawns were served coated in a sticky sauce with a lemon chilly foam.
The Braised Lamb Chops were served coated in a sticky sweet sauce along with micro greens and a dip.
The Chilly Duck Samosa were small samosas filled with a duck meat mince. This dish didn’t impress me much compared to the others.
The Chicken Changezi Quesadillas were the star of the night. They were served sandwiched between flatbreads. They were absolutely mind blowing and delicious. The minced chicken was packed with flavors.
The Karela Calamari was another of Farzi Café’s signatures, however I shied away from this.
The Bhatti Ka Murg were tender, succulent and juicy chicken morsels served on a mini barbeque. It had an amazing smoky flavor along with flavor from the marination. This was a pretty decent dish.
The mains started with the Chicken Tikka Masala which was served in a telephone booth. It had well cooked chicken pieces in a creamy traditional tikka gravy along with butter naan. This was again, a good dish.
The Mutton Irachi Pepper Fry was served with the Kerala Parotta. Mutton pieces cooked to perfection, this dish totally reminded me of the flavours of the South.
The Ratatouille Bhaji with Maska Focaccia was a really good options for the vegetarians. Ratatouille bhaji had bold flavours and went well with the maska focaccia which were served in the dumper of a mini truck.
The Spaghetti Aglio Olio was an average fare for me. I found the spaghetti to be a little overcooked. An al dente spaghetti would have done the trick for me. It was served with a tomato sauce on the top.
The Bheja Appam Fry was served in an appam with gun powder and green & orange chutney. It tasted pretty well.
The Ras Malai Tres Leches had to be my favourite dessert from the night. Ras malai with a carrot layer served with a spun sugar and garnished with rose petals was amazing. Ras Malai being my favorite sweet dish, I couldn’t resist myself from polishing the plate clean.
The Parle G Cheese Cake was had a delicious cheese cake sandwiched in parle g biscuits over a bed of rabdi and topped off with gems. It was a little difficult to eat because the cheese cake kept oozing out of the biscuits. Nonetheless, it tasted wonderful.
We ended our meal on a high with the Farzi Paan.
A big shout out to Utsav from Trell and Mrs. Ishwari for inviting and hosting us.
